Long lost love

We met in middle school and you moved away to another country. At the age of 23 we dated but we eventually went opposite ways and married other people. Seventeen years later, our paths crossed and we had an affair for 2 years but we managed to go our separate ways again. Timing was never on our side. We never managed to be single at the same time.
